Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install znc-tcl
on Ubuntu.
What is znc-tcl
znc-tcl is:
znc is an IRC proxy. It runs as a daemon and connects to IRC server, then allows you to connect from a workstation and work as the user that is logged in to the IRC server. After you disconnect, it maintains the connection to the server. It acts like any normal IRC server, so you can use any IRC client to connect to it.
Some of its features include support for multiple users, multiple clients, and multiple IRC servers; playback buffers to catch up with what happened while you were detached, SSL encryption, DCC proxying, and a plugin interface with many plugins supporting other features.
This package contains the znc Tcl extension.
There are three methods to install znc-tcl
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install znc-tcl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install znc-tcl
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install znc-tcl

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install znc-tcl
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install znc-tcl
How To Uninstall znc-tcl on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the znc-tcl
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove znc-tcl
Uninstall znc-tcl And Its Dependencies
To uninstall znc-tcl
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove znc-tcl
Remove znc-tcl Configurations and Data
To remove znc-tcl
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge znc-tcl
Remove znc-tcl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
