Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install znc-python
on Ubuntu.
What is znc-python
znc-python is:
znc is an IRC proxy. It runs as a daemon and connects to IRC server, then allows you to connect from a workstation and work as the user that is logged in to the IRC server. After you disconnect, it maintains the connection to the server. It acts like any normal IRC server, so you can use any IRC client to connect to it.
Some of its features include support for multiple users, multiple clients, and multiple IRC servers; playback buffers to catch up with what happened while you were detached, SSL encryption, DCC proxying, and a plugin interface with many plugins supporting other features.
This package contains the znc Python extension.
There are three methods to install znc-python
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install znc-python Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install znc-python
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install znc-python

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install znc-python
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install znc-python
Install znc-python Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install znc-python
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install znc-python
How To Uninstall znc-python on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the znc-python
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove znc-python
Uninstall znc-python And Its Dependencies
To uninstall znc-python
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove znc-python
Remove znc-python Configurations and Data
To remove znc-python
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge znc-python
Remove znc-python configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
