Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install zfs-zed
on Ubuntu.
What is zfs-zed
zfs-zed is:
OpenZFS is a storage platform that encompasses the functionality of traditional filesystems and volume managers. It supports data checksums, compression, encryption, snapshots, and more.
ZED (ZFS Event Daemon) monitors events generated by the ZFS kernel module. When a zevent (ZFS Event) is posted, ZED will run any ZEDLETs (ZFS Event Daemon Linkage for Executable Tasks) that have been enabled for the corresponding zevent class.
This package provides the OpenZFS Event Daemon (zed).
There are three methods to install zfs-zed
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install zfs-zed Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install zfs-zed
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install zfs-zed
Install zfs-zed Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install zfs-zed
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install zfs-zed
Install zfs-zed Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install zfs-zed
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install zfs-zed
How To Uninstall zfs-zed on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the zfs-zed
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove zfs-zed
Uninstall zfs-zed And Its Dependencies
To uninstall zfs-zed
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove zfs-zed
Remove zfs-zed Configurations and Data
To remove zfs-zed
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge zfs-zed
Remove zfs-zed configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove zfs-zed
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge zfs-zed
