Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install zeitgeist-core
on Ubuntu.
What is zeitgeist-core
zeitgeist-core is:
Zeitgeist is a service which logs the user’s activities and events (files opened, websites visited, conversations held with other people, etc.) and makes the relevant information available to other applications.
It serves as a comprehensive activity log and also makes it possible to determine relationships between items based on usage patterns.
This package contains the main daemon (in its new Vala implementation, codenamed “Bluebird”). It also includes the FTS (Full Text Search) extension.
There are three methods to install zeitgeist-core
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install zeitgeist-core Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install zeitgeist-core
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install zeitgeist-core
Install zeitgeist-core Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install zeitgeist-core
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install zeitgeist-core
Install zeitgeist-core Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install zeitgeist-core
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install zeitgeist-core
How To Uninstall zeitgeist-core on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the zeitgeist-core
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove zeitgeist-core
Uninstall zeitgeist-core And Its Dependencies
To uninstall zeitgeist-core
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove zeitgeist-core
Remove zeitgeist-core Configurations and Data
To remove zeitgeist-core
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge zeitgeist-core
Remove zeitgeist-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove zeitgeist-core
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge zeitgeist-core
