Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install zec
on Ubuntu.
What is zec
zec is:
zec is a client for Empire (http://www.wolfpackempire.com/), a real time, multiplayer, internet-based game, featuring military, diplomatic, and economic goals.
Currently there are two incarnations of zec: zec, and zecsh.
zec itself is a traditional script in the style of pei. While it is not as full-featured as pei, it does have the advantage of ZLE support.
zecsh is an experimental script, intended to be sourced from a running shell instance, in order to give the user the ability to intersperse normal shell constructs with Empire commands.
At this time, zecsh is considerably less stable than zec.
There are three methods to install zec
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install zec Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install zec
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install zec

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude

How To Uninstall zec on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the zec
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove zec

To uninstall zec
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove zec
Remove zec Configurations and Data
To remove zec
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge zec
