In this tutorial we learn how to install z-push-ipc-memcached on Ubuntu.
What is z-push-ipc-memcached
z-push-ipc-memcached is:
Z-Push is an implementation of the ActiveSync protocol which is used ‘over-the-air’ for multi platform ActiveSync devices, including Windows Mobile, iPhone, Sony Ericsson and Nokia mobile devices. With Z-Push any groupware can be connected and synced with these devices.
This package is a provider for Z-Push that provides the usage of IPC via memcached mainly used in multi hosted setups. IPC is a acronym for ‘Inter Process Communication’.
There are three methods to install z-push-ipc-memcached on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install z-push-ipc-memcached Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install z-push-ipc-memcached using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install z-push-ipc-memcached
Install z-push-ipc-memcached Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install z-push-ipc-memcached using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install z-push-ipc-memcached
Install z-push-ipc-memcached Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install z-push-ipc-memcached using aptitude by running the following command:

To remove z-push-ipc-memcached configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge z-push-ipc-memcached
Remove z-push-ipc-memcached configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
