In this tutorial we learn how to install youtube-dl on Ubuntu.
What is youtube-dl
youtube-dl is:
youtube-dl is a small command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com and other sites that don’t provide direct links to the videos served.
youtube-dl allows the user, among other things, to choose a specific video quality to download (if available) or let the program automatically determine the best (or worst) quality video to grab. It supports downloading entire playlists and all videos from a given user.

There are three methods to install youtube-dl on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install youtube-dl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install youtube-dl using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install youtube-dl using apt by running the following command:

Install youtube-dl Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install youtube-dl using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install youtube-dl
How To Uninstall youtube-dl on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the youtube-dl package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove youtube-dl
Uninstall youtube-dl And Its Dependencies
To uninstall youtube-dl and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove youtube-dl
Remove youtube-dl Configurations and Data
To remove youtube-dl configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge youtube-dl
Remove youtube-dl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove youtube-dl configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
