In this tutorial we learn how to install yaz on Ubuntu.

What is yaz

yaz is:

YAZ is a toolkit for the development of client and server software built around the ANSI Z39.50 (ISO 23950) standard for information retrieval.

YAZ supports Z39.50-2003 (version 3), SRU versions 1.1 to 2.0, and the industry standard ZOOM API for Z39.50.

This package provides several utility programs for retrieving and working with data records obtained from URLs and web services.

There are three methods to install yaz on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install yaz Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install yaz using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install yaz

Install yaz Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install yaz using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install yaz

Install yaz Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install yaz using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install yaz

How To Uninstall yaz on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the yaz package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove yaz

Uninstall yaz And Its Dependencies

To uninstall yaz and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove yaz

Remove yaz Configurations and Data

To remove yaz configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge yaz

Remove yaz configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove yaz configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge yaz
