In this tutorial we learn how to install yaz-icu on Ubuntu.
What is yaz-icu
yaz-icu is:
YAZ is a toolkit for the development of client and server software built around the ANSI Z39.50 (ISO 23950) standard for information retrieval.
YAZ supports Z39.50-2003 (version 3), SRU versions 1.1 to 2.0, and the industry standard ZOOM API for Z39.50.
The yaz-icu program is a command-line client that exposes the ICU chain module of YAZ.
There are three methods to install yaz-icu on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install yaz-icu Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install yaz-icu using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install yaz-icu
Install yaz-icu Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install yaz-icu using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install yaz-icu
Install yaz-icu Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install yaz-icu using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install yaz-icu
How To Uninstall yaz-icu on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the yaz-icu package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove yaz-icu
Uninstall yaz-icu And Its Dependencies
To uninstall yaz-icu and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove yaz-icu
Remove yaz-icu Configurations and Data
To remove yaz-icu configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge yaz-icu
Remove yaz-icu configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove yaz-icu configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge yaz-icu
