Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xvile on Ubuntu.
What is xvile
xvile is:
vile is a text editor which is extremely compatible with vi in terms of ``finger feel’’. In addition, it has extended capabilities in many areas, notably multi-file editing and viewing, syntax highlighting, key rebinding, an optional embedded perl interpreter, and real X window system support.
This package contains the X11 binary. Required support files are contained in vile-common. Source code highlighting filters are in vile-filters. A character-mode binary is in the vile package.
There are three methods to install xvile on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xvile Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xvile using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xvile
Install xvile Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xvile using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xvile
Install xvile Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xvile using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xvile
How To Uninstall xvile on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the xvile package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xvile
Uninstall xvile And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xvile and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xvile
Remove xvile Configurations and Data
To remove xvile configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xvile
