In this tutorial we learn how to install xmobar
on Ubuntu.
What is xmobar
xmobar is:
xmobar is a lightweight text-based status bar for X11 desktops written in Haskell and designed to work with (but not limited to) xmonad. It has a variety of plugins allowing the display of system-related data and an extensible architecture that makes it easy to write one’s own plugins. xmobar supports displaying UTF-8 text and using TrueType fonts via Xft.
There are three methods to install xmobar
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xmobar Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xmobar
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xmobar
Install xmobar Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xmobar
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xmobar
Install xmobar Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xmobar
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xmobar
How To Uninstall xmobar on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the xmobar
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xmobar
Uninstall xmobar And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xmobar
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xmobar
Remove xmobar Configurations and Data
To remove xmobar
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xmobar
Remove xmobar configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xmobar
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xmobar
