In this tutorial we learn how to install xmms2-core
on Ubuntu.
What is xmms2-core
xmms2-core is:
XMMS2 is a redesign of the XMMS music player. It features a client-server model, allowing multiple (even simultaneous!) user interfaces, both textual and graphical. All common audio formats are supported using plug-ins. On top of this, there is a flexible media library to organize your music.
This package just contains the daemon that loads plug-ins and allows clients to connect.
There are three methods to install xmms2-core
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xmms2-core Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xmms2-core
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xmms2-core

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xmms2-core
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xmms2-core
Install xmms2-core Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xmms2-core
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xmms2-core
How To Uninstall xmms2-core on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the xmms2-core
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xmms2-core
Uninstall xmms2-core And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xmms2-core
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xmms2-core
Remove xmms2-core Configurations and Data
To remove xmms2-core
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xmms2-core
Remove xmms2-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xmms2-core
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xmms2-core
