How To Install xgboost on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install xgboost on Ubuntu.

What is xgboost

xgboost is:

XGBoost is an optimized distributed gradient boosting library designed to be highly efficient, flexible and portable. It implements machine learning algorithms under the Gradient Boosting framework. XGBoost provides a parallel tree boosting (also known as GBDT, GBM) that solve many data science problems in a fast and accurate way. The same code runs on major distributed environment (Kubernetes, Hadoop, SGE, MPI, Dask) and can solve problems beyond billions of examples.

This package contains the xgboost binary executable.

There are three methods to install xgboost on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xgboost Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xgboost using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xgboost

Install xgboost Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xgboost using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xgboost

Install xgboost Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xgboost using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xgboost

How To Uninstall xgboost on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the xgboost package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xgboost

Uninstall xgboost And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xgboost and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xgboost

Remove xgboost Configurations and Data

To remove xgboost configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xgboost

Remove xgboost configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xgboost configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xgboost
