How To Install xfonts-cyrillic on Ubuntu

In this tutorial we learn how to install xfonts-cyrillic on Ubuntu.

What is xfonts-cyrillic

xfonts-cyrillic is:

xfonts-cyrillic provides a set of fonts using the Cyrillic alphabet for X servers. In most cases it is desirable to have the X font server (xfs) and/or an X server installed to make the fonts available to X clients.

There are three methods to install xfonts-cyrillic on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xfonts-cyrillic Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-cyrillic using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xfonts-cyrillic

Install xfonts-cyrillic Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-cyrillic using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xfonts-cyrillic

Install xfonts-cyrillic Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-cyrillic using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xfonts-cyrillic

How To Uninstall xfonts-cyrillic on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the xfonts-cyrillic package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xfonts-cyrillic

Uninstall xfonts-cyrillic And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xfonts-cyrillic and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xfonts-cyrillic

Remove xfonts-cyrillic Configurations and Data

To remove xfonts-cyrillic configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xfonts-cyrillic

Remove xfonts-cyrillic configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xfonts-cyrillic configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xfonts-cyrillic
