How To Install xfonts-ayu on Ubuntu

In this tutorial we learn how to install xfonts-ayu on Ubuntu.

What is xfonts-ayu

xfonts-ayu is:

This package includes Japanese (jisx0208.1990, jisx0201.1976) and ISO-8859-1 bitmap fonts for X Window System with Ayu gothic 18 dot, Ayu gothic 20 dot and Ayu mincho 18x18 dot fonts.

There are three methods to install xfonts-ayu on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xfonts-ayu Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-ayu using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xfonts-ayu

Install xfonts-ayu Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-ayu using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xfonts-ayu

Install xfonts-ayu Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xfonts-ayu using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xfonts-ayu

How To Uninstall xfonts-ayu on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the xfonts-ayu package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xfonts-ayu

Uninstall xfonts-ayu And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xfonts-ayu and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xfonts-ayu

Remove xfonts-ayu Configurations and Data

To remove xfonts-ayu configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xfonts-ayu

Remove xfonts-ayu configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xfonts-ayu configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xfonts-ayu
