Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xfce4-settings
on Ubuntu.
What is xfce4-settings
xfce4-settings is:
xfce4-settings is the Xfce settings manager front-end. It comes with several different components for configuring application-independent settings inside xfconf. It contains multiple tools:
- xfce4-settings-manager (which replaces the old mcs settings manager), which executes the various (provided) settings dialogs
- xfce4-settings-editor, a tool for editing ALL settings within xfconf, the graphical counterpart of xfconf-query.
- xfsettingsd, a daemon for exporting XSettings to applications, and providing special features like keyboard shortcuts, AccessX notification and update of keyboard and mouse-pointer data.
There are three methods to install xfce4-settings
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xfce4-settings Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xfce4-settings
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xfce4-settings
Install xfce4-settings Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xfce4-settings
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xfce4-settings
Install xfce4-settings Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xfce4-settings
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xfce4-settings
How To Uninstall xfce4-settings on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the xfce4-settings
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xfce4-settings
Uninstall xfce4-settings And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xfce4-settings
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xfce4-settings
Remove xfce4-settings Configurations and Data
To remove xfce4-settings
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xfce4-settings
Remove xfce4-settings configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xfce4-settings
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xfce4-settings
