Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install xfce4-screensaver on Ubuntu.

What is xfce4-screensaver

xfce4-screensaver is:

Xfce Screensaver is a screen saver and locker that aims to have simple, sane, secure defaults and be well integrated with the Xfce desktop.

It is a port of MATE Screensaver, itself a port of GNOME Screensaver. It has been tightly integrated with the Xfce desktop, utilizing Xfce libraries and the Xfconf configuration backend.

There are three methods to install xfce4-screensaver on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xfce4-screensaver Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xfce4-screensaver using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xfce4-screensaver

Install xfce4-screensaver Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xfce4-screensaver using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xfce4-screensaver

Install xfce4-screensaver Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xfce4-screensaver using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xfce4-screensaver

How To Uninstall xfce4-screensaver on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the xfce4-screensaver package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xfce4-screensaver

Uninstall xfce4-screensaver And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xfce4-screensaver and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xfce4-screensaver

Remove xfce4-screensaver Configurations and Data

To remove xfce4-screensaver configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xfce4-screensaver

Remove xfce4-screensaver configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove xfce4-screensaver configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xfce4-screensaver
