Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xcowsay
on Ubuntu.
What is xcowsay
xcowsay is:
A GTK+ version of the classic cowsay Perl script. It displays a cute pop-up cow on your desktop with a speech bubble and some customizable text. There’s also a dream mode where the cow can display images. It comes with a fortune(6) wrapper script, xcowfortune, which you can cron to deliver periodic fortune cookies via the cow.
There are three methods to install xcowsay
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xcowsay Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xcowsay
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xcowsay
Install xcowsay Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xcowsay
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xcowsay
Install xcowsay Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xcowsay
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xcowsay
How To Uninstall xcowsay on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the xcowsay
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xcowsay
Uninstall xcowsay And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xcowsay
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xcowsay
Remove xcowsay Configurations and Data
To remove xcowsay
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xcowsay
Remove xcowsay configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xcowsay
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xcowsay
