In this tutorial we learn how to install xbase-clients on Ubuntu.
What is xbase-clients
xbase-clients is:
An X client is a program that interfaces with an X server (almost always via the X libraries), and thus with some input and output hardware like a graphics card, monitor, keyboard, and pointing device (such as a mouse).
This package provides a miscellaneous assortment of several dozen X clients that ship with the X Window System.
This package is provided for transition from earlier Debian releases, the programs formerly in xutils and xbase-clients having been split out in smaller packages.
There are three methods to install xbase-clients on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xbase-clients Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xbase-clients using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xbase-clients

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xbase-clients using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xbase-clients
Install xbase-clients Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xbase-clients using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xbase-clients
How To Uninstall xbase-clients on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the xbase-clients package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xbase-clients

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xbase-clients

To remove xbase-clients configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xbase-clients
