on Ubuntu.
What is x-tile
x-tile is:
X-tile is an application that allows you to select a number of windows and tile them in different ways. Works on any X desktop.
Main features include:
- Several tiling geometries
- Undo tiling
- Invert tiling order
- Optional system tray docking and menu
- Filter to exclude windows
- Filter to include windows by default
- Command line interface
There are three methods to install x-tile
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install x-tile Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install x-tile
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install x-tile

Update apt database with apt

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install x-tile
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install x-tile
Install x-tile Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install x-tile
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install x-tile
How To Uninstall x-tile on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the x-tile
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove x-tile

To uninstall x-tile
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove x-tile

configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge x-tile
