Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install wsjtx-data
on Ubuntu.
What is wsjtx-data
wsjtx-data is:
WSJT-X implements amateur radio communication protocols or “modes” called FT4, FT8, JT4, JT9, JT65, QRA64, ISCAT, MSK144, and WSPR, as well as one called Echo for detecting and measuring your own radio signals reflected from the Moon. These modes were all designed for making reliable, confirmed QSOs under extreme weak-signal conditions.
This package contains architecture-independent data files.
There are three methods to install wsjtx-data
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install wsjtx-data Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install wsjtx-data
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install wsjtx-data

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install wsjtx-data

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude

using aptitude

and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove wsjtx-data

To remove wsjtx-data
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge wsjtx-data
Remove wsjtx-data configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove wsjtx-data

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge wsjtx-data
