Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install wmaker-common on Ubuntu.
What is wmaker-common
wmaker-common is:
Written by Alfredo Kojima almost from scratch, resembles the NeXTStep look very closely, and it is now an official GNU project. Window Maker (originally named WindowMaker) is not overloaded with features, and it is easier to configure than most other window managers. Its final goal is to produce a window manager that doesn’t require editing of configuration files. Window Maker is fast and doesn’t require tons of memory to run.
This package contains the architecture independent files.
There are three methods to install wmaker-common on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install wmaker-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install wmaker-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install wmaker-common
Install wmaker-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install wmaker-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install wmaker-common
Install wmaker-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install wmaker-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install wmaker-common
How To Uninstall wmaker-common on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the wmaker-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove wmaker-common
Uninstall wmaker-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall wmaker-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove wmaker-common
Remove wmaker-common Configurations and Data
To remove wmaker-common configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge wmaker-common
