Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install wiredtiger on Ubuntu.
What is wiredtiger
wiredtiger is:
Supports row-oriented storage (where all columns of a row are stored together), column-oriented storage (where columns are stored in groups, allowing for more efficient access and storage of column subsets) and log-structured merge trees (LSM), for sustained throughput under random insert workloads.
Includes ACID transactions with standard isolation levels and durability at both checkpoint and fine-grained granularity.
Can be used as a simple key/value store, but also has a complete schema layer, including indices and projections.
There are three methods to install wiredtiger on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install wiredtiger Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install wiredtiger using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install wiredtiger
Install wiredtiger Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install wiredtiger using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install wiredtiger
Install wiredtiger Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install wiredtiger using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install wiredtiger
How To Uninstall wiredtiger on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the wiredtiger package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove wiredtiger
Uninstall wiredtiger And Its Dependencies
To uninstall wiredtiger and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove wiredtiger
Remove wiredtiger Configurations and Data
To remove wiredtiger configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge wiredtiger
Remove wiredtiger configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove wiredtiger configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge wiredtiger
