Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install winpr-utils on Ubuntu.
What is winpr-utils
winpr-utils is:
WinPR is a spin-off project of FreeRDP which aims at providing a portable implementation of important portions of the Windows API. Just like FreeRDP, WinPR is released under the Apache license. Unlike Wine, WinPR does not provide binary compatibility, and does not require applications to be built for Windows. Instead, WinPR provides API compatibility for applications targeting non-Windows environments. When on Windows, the original native API is being used instead of the equivalent WinPR implementation, without having to modify the code using it.
This package contains WinPR command line utils (winpr-hash, winpr-makecert).
There are three methods to install winpr-utils on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install winpr-utils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install winpr-utils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install winpr-utils
Install winpr-utils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install winpr-utils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install winpr-utils
Install winpr-utils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install winpr-utils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install winpr-utils
How To Uninstall winpr-utils on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the winpr-utils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove winpr-utils
Uninstall winpr-utils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall winpr-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove winpr-utils
Remove winpr-utils Configurations and Data
To remove winpr-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge winpr-utils
Remove winpr-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove winpr-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge winpr-utils
