Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install whysynth on Ubuntu.
What is whysynth
whysynth is:
Disposable Soft Synth Interface (DSSI). A brief list of features:
- 4 oscillators, 2 filters, 3 LFOs, and 5 envelope generators per voice.
- 10 oscillator modes minBLEP, wavecycle, asynchronous granular, three FM modes, waveshaper, noise, PADsynth, and phase distortion.
- 6 filter modes.
- flexible modulation and mixdown options. DSSI is a plugin API for software instruments (soft synths) with user interfaces, permitting them to be hosted in-process by audio applications. More information on DSSI can be found at: http://dssi.sourceforge.net/
There are three methods to install whysynth on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install whysynth Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install whysynth using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install whysynth

To remove whysynth configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge whysynth
