In this tutorial we learn how to install vrrpd
on Ubuntu.
What is vrrpd
vrrpd is:
This package provides an implementation of VRRPv2 as specified in rfc2338. It runs in the Linux kernel’s userspace (as root).
VRRP can be used to setup high-availability services in Debian since two machines can use the same (virtual) IP address which is transfered upon failover. Some kernel features need to be enabled (please read the FAQ)
There are three methods to install vrrpd
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vrrpd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install vrrpd
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vrrpd
Install vrrpd Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install vrrpd
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vrrpd
Install vrrpd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install vrrpd
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vrrpd
How To Uninstall vrrpd on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the vrrpd
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vrrpd
Uninstall vrrpd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vrrpd
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vrrpd
Remove vrrpd Configurations and Data
To remove vrrpd
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vrrpd
Remove vrrpd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove vrrpd
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vrrpd
