What is vlc-bin
vlc-bin is:
VLC is the VideoLAN project’s media player. It plays MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, WebM, FLAC, MP3, Ogg/Vorbis files, DVDs, VCDs, podcasts, and multimedia streams from various network sources.
This package contains the VLC’s binaries.
There are three methods to install vlc-bin on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vlc-bin Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install vlc-bin using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vlc-bin

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install vlc-bin using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vlc-bin
Install vlc-bin Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install vlc-bin using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vlc-bin
How To Uninstall vlc-bin on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the vlc-bin package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vlc-bin
Uninstall vlc-bin And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vlc-bin and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vlc-bin
Remove vlc-bin Configurations and Data
To remove vlc-bin configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vlc-bin
Remove vlc-bin configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove vlc-bin configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vlc-bin
