Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install virtuoso-server
on Ubuntu.
What is virtuoso-server
virtuoso-server is:
OpenLink Virtuoso is a high-performance object-relational SQL database. It provides transactions, a smart SQL compiler, hot backup, SQL:1999 support, a powerful stored-procedure language supporting server-side Java or .NET, and more. It supports all major data-access interfaces, including ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, and OLE/DB.
This is an empty package depending on the current “best” version of the Virtuoso server framework, as recommended by the maintainers (currently virtuoso-opensource-7). Install this package if in doubt about which version you need.
There are three methods to install virtuoso-server
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install virtuoso-server Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install virtuoso-server
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install virtuoso-server
Install virtuoso-server Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install virtuoso-server
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install virtuoso-server
Install virtuoso-server Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install virtuoso-server
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install virtuoso-server
How To Uninstall virtuoso-server on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the virtuoso-server
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove virtuoso-server
Uninstall virtuoso-server And Its Dependencies
To uninstall virtuoso-server
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove virtuoso-server
Remove virtuoso-server Configurations and Data
To remove virtuoso-server
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge virtuoso-server
Remove virtuoso-server configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove virtuoso-server
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge virtuoso-server
