In this tutorial we learn how to install vim-scripts on Ubuntu.

What is vim-scripts

vim-scripts is:

Vim is a very capable editor. Its scripting support allows the use of plugins that enhance the functionality of it. Many people have written scripts, they are scattered all over the web; however, there’s a central resource on https://www.vim.org/ to start with.

This is a collection of some of those scripts on a purely subjective and biased basis. Users can thus have some nice scripts without having to go searching. The scripts can be installed globally or on a per user basis. Here is a summary of the included scripts:

All of the addons are installed as “optional” Vim packages. They can be enabled by adding “packadd! ” (e.g., “packadd! AlignPlugin”) to the vimrc.

There are three methods to install vim-scripts on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install vim-scripts Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install vim-scripts using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install vim-scripts

Install vim-scripts Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install vim-scripts using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install vim-scripts

Install vim-scripts Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install vim-scripts using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install vim-scripts

How To Uninstall vim-scripts on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the vim-scripts package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove vim-scripts

Uninstall vim-scripts And Its Dependencies

To uninstall vim-scripts and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove vim-scripts

Remove vim-scripts Configurations and Data

To remove vim-scripts configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge vim-scripts

Remove vim-scripts configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove vim-scripts configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vim-scripts
