Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install vim-nox on Ubuntu.
What is vim-nox
vim-nox is:
Vim is an almost compatible version of the UNIX editor Vi.
Many new features have been added: multi level undo, syntax highlighting, command line history, on-line help, filename completion, block operations, folding, Unicode support, etc.
This package contains a version of vim compiled with support for scripting with Lua, Perl, Python 3, Ruby, and Tcl but no GUI.
There are three methods to install vim-nox on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vim-nox Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install vim-nox using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vim-nox

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install vim-nox using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vim-nox
Install vim-nox Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install vim-nox using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vim-nox
How To Uninstall vim-nox on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the vim-nox package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vim-nox
Uninstall vim-nox And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vim-nox and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vim-nox
Remove vim-nox Configurations and Data
To remove vim-nox configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vim-nox
