In this tutorial we learn how to install vim-git-hub on Ubuntu.
What is vim-git-hub
vim-git-hub is:
git hub is a simple command line interface to GitHub, enabling most useful GitHub tasks (like creating and listing pull request or issues) to be accessed directly through the Git command line.
This package provides the Vim runtime files for git hub’s HUB_EDITMSG files.
There are three methods to install vim-git-hub on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install vim-git-hub Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install vim-git-hub using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install vim-git-hub
Install vim-git-hub Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install vim-git-hub using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install vim-git-hub
Install vim-git-hub Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install vim-git-hub using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install vim-git-hub
How To Uninstall vim-git-hub on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the vim-git-hub package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove vim-git-hub
Uninstall vim-git-hub And Its Dependencies
To uninstall vim-git-hub and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove vim-git-hub
Remove vim-git-hub Configurations and Data
To remove vim-git-hub configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge vim-git-hub
Remove vim-git-hub configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove vim-git-hub configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vim-git-hub
