In this tutorial we learn how to install vdpauinfo on Ubuntu.

What is vdpauinfo

vdpauinfo is:

VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix) is an open source library (libvdpau) and API designed by NVIDIA originally for its GeForce 8 series and later GPU hardware, targeted at the X Window System on Unix operating-systems (including Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris). This VDPAU API allows video programs to offload portions of the video decoding process and video post-processing to the GPU video-hardware.

This package contains the vdpauinfo utility.

There are three methods to install vdpauinfo on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install vdpauinfo Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install vdpauinfo using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install vdpauinfo

Install vdpauinfo Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install vdpauinfo using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install vdpauinfo

Install vdpauinfo Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install vdpauinfo using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install vdpauinfo

How To Uninstall vdpauinfo on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the vdpauinfo package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove vdpauinfo

Uninstall vdpauinfo And Its Dependencies

To uninstall vdpauinfo and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove vdpauinfo

Remove vdpauinfo Configurations and Data

To remove vdpauinfo configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge vdpauinfo

Remove vdpauinfo configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove vdpauinfo configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vdpauinfo
