How To Install vdeplug on Ubuntu

In this tutorial we learn how to install vdeplug on Ubuntu.

What is vdeplug

vdeplug is:

VDE provides a versatile support to create Ethernet compliant virtual networks. The vdeplug library, like an ethernet plug, can be used to connect virtual machines, namespaces, IoTh (Internet of Threads) processes or VDE utility commands to virtual networks.

This library uses plug-ins to support several VDE implementations and to be open to new developments in virtual networking.

Several plugins are included as standard extensions of the library, e.g.:

This package contains some utility tools for VDE including vde_plug.

There are three methods to install vdeplug on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install vdeplug Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install vdeplug using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install vdeplug

Install vdeplug Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install vdeplug using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install vdeplug

Install vdeplug Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install vdeplug using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install vdeplug

How To Uninstall vdeplug on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the vdeplug package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove vdeplug

Uninstall vdeplug And Its Dependencies

To uninstall vdeplug and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove vdeplug

Remove vdeplug Configurations and Data

To remove vdeplug configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge vdeplug

Remove vdeplug configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove vdeplug configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge vdeplug
