Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install u3-tool on Ubuntu.
What is u3-tool
u3-tool is:
Tool for controlling USB flash devices that conform to the U3 specifications. You can do the following with your U3 flash:
- Replace the CD image
- Change the size of the virtual CD or completely remove it
- Enable and disable security
- Unlock and change the password of secured U3 device
- Obtain various device information
There are three methods to install u3-tool on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install u3-tool Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install u3-tool using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install u3-tool

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install u3-tool using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install u3-tool
Install u3-tool Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
