Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install u-boot-menu on Ubuntu.

What is u-boot-menu

u-boot-menu is:

Automatically create extlinux-style boot menu for u-boot. Boot menu entries are automatically created for every kernel package when they are installed.

When /boot is on a separate partition, the package flash-kernel may help ensure that device-tree (dtb) files are made available to u-boot.

There are three methods to install u-boot-menu on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install u-boot-menu Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install u-boot-menu using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install u-boot-menu

Install u-boot-menu Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install u-boot-menu using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install u-boot-menu

Install u-boot-menu Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install u-boot-menu using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install u-boot-menu

How To Uninstall u-boot-menu on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the u-boot-menu package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove u-boot-menu

Uninstall u-boot-menu And Its Dependencies

To uninstall u-boot-menu and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove u-boot-menu

Remove u-boot-menu Configurations and Data

To remove u-boot-menu configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge u-boot-menu

Remove u-boot-menu configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove u-boot-menu configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge u-boot-menu
