In this tutorial we learn how to install twinkle-common on Ubuntu.

What is twinkle-common

twinkle-common is:

Twinkle is a soft-phone for making telephone calls over an IP network using the SIP protocol. You can use it for direct IP phone to IP phone communication or in a network using a SIP proxy to route your calls. Notable features include multiple active identities, call transfer, call rejection, 2 simultaneous calls and 3-way conference calls.

This package contains common files for both interfaces.

There are three methods to install twinkle-common on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install twinkle-common Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install twinkle-common using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install twinkle-common

Install twinkle-common Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install twinkle-common using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install twinkle-common

Install twinkle-common Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install twinkle-common using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install twinkle-common

How To Uninstall twinkle-common on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the twinkle-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove twinkle-common

Uninstall twinkle-common And Its Dependencies

To uninstall twinkle-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove twinkle-common

Remove twinkle-common Configurations and Data

To remove twinkle-common configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge twinkle-common
