In this tutorial we learn how to install ttfautohint
on Ubuntu.
What is ttfautohint
ttfautohint is:
This project provides a library which takes a TrueType font as the input, removes its bytecode instructions (if any), and returns a new font where all glyphs are bytecode hinted using the information given by FreeType’s autohinting module. The idea is to provide the excellent quality of the autohinter on platforms which don’t use FreeType.
This includes a cli and a gui version of the tool.
There are three methods to install ttfautohint
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ttfautohint Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ttfautohint
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ttfautohint
Install ttfautohint Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ttfautohint
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ttfautohint
Install ttfautohint Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ttfautohint
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ttfautohint
How To Uninstall ttfautohint on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ttfautohint
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ttfautohint
Uninstall ttfautohint And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ttfautohint
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ttfautohint
Remove ttfautohint Configurations and Data
To remove ttfautohint
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ttfautohint
Remove ttfautohint configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ttfautohint
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ttfautohint
