In this tutorial we learn how to install tourney-manager on Ubuntu.
What is tourney-manager
tourney-manager is:
Let your chess engines play tournaments against each other. This program manages setup and automatic running engine vs. engine matches, it has an interactive commandline and can start and stop the tournament, show current state and a crosstable. Every game will be displayed in a xboard session and can be observed. All games are stored in portable chess game notation, pgn.
There are three methods to install tourney-manager on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tourney-manager Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tourney-manager using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tourney-manager
Install tourney-manager Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install tourney-manager using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tourney-manager
Install tourney-manager Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install tourney-manager using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tourney-manager
How To Uninstall tourney-manager on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the tourney-manager package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tourney-manager
Uninstall tourney-manager And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tourney-manager and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tourney-manager
Remove tourney-manager Configurations and Data
To remove tourney-manager configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tourney-manager
