Tor Browser Launcher is intended to make the Tor Browser Bundle (TBB) easier to maintain and use for GNU/Linux users. torbrowser-launcher handles downloading the most recent version of TBB for you, in your language and for your architecture. It also adds a “Tor Browser” application launcher to your operating system’s menu.
When you first launch Tor Browser Launcher, it will download TBB from https://www.torproject.org/ and extract it to ~/.local/share/torbrowser, and then execute it. Cache and configuration files will be stored in ~/.cache/torbrowser and ~/.config/torbrowser. Each subsequent execution after installation will simply launch the most recent TBB, which is updated using Tor Browser’s own update feature.
There are three methods to install torbrowser-launcher on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install torbrowser-launcher Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install torbrowser-launcher using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install torbrowser-launcher
Install torbrowser-launcher Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install torbrowser-launcher using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install torbrowser-launcher

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install torbrowser-launcher using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install torbrowser-launcher
How To Uninstall torbrowser-launcher on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the torbrowser-launcher package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove torbrowser-launcher

To uninstall torbrowser-launcher and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove torbrowser-launcher

To remove torbrowser-launcher configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge torbrowser-launcher
