Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install tilix on Ubuntu.
What is tilix
tilix is:
Tilix is a feature-rich tiling terminal emulator following the GNOME human interface design guidelines. Its many features include:
- Layout terminals in any fashion by splitting them horizontally or vertically.
- Terminals can be re-arranged using drag and drop both within and between windows.
- Terminals can be detached into a new window via drag and drop.
- Input can be synchronized between terminals so commands typed in one terminal are replicated to the others.
- Supports notifications when processes are completed out of view.
There are three methods to install tilix on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tilix Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tilix using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tilix
Install tilix Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install tilix using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tilix
Install tilix Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install tilix using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tilix
How To Uninstall tilix on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the tilix package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tilix
Uninstall tilix And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tilix and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tilix
Remove tilix Configurations and Data
To remove tilix configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tilix
Remove tilix configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove tilix configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tilix
