Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install terminology on Ubuntu.
What is terminology
terminology is:
It emulates a slightly extended vt100 with some extensions and bling:
- Most escapes supported by xterm, rxvt, Xterm 256 color, etc. work
- Background effects, Transparency, bitmap and scalable fonts supported
- Themes for the layout and design, and a visual bell.
- URL, file path and email address detection and link-handling
- Inline display of link content
- Multiple copy and paste selections and buffer support
- Works in X11, Wayland and directly in the Linux framebuffer (fbcon)
- Finger/touch controlled, scan scale by UI scaling factors
- Render using OpenGL or OpenGL-ES2 or Software mode.
- Can display inlined multimedia, multiple tabs and split into multiple panes
- Block text selection. Drag and drop of text selections and links
- Can stream media from URLs
- Tab switcher has live thumbnail content
- Single process, multiple windows/terminals support
There are three methods to install terminology on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install terminology Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install terminology using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install terminology
Install terminology Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install terminology using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install terminology
Install terminology Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install terminology using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install terminology
How To Uninstall terminology on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the terminology package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove terminology

To uninstall terminology and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove terminology

To remove terminology configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge terminology
