Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install sysfsutils on Ubuntu.
What is sysfsutils
sysfsutils is:
The sysfs is a virtual file system found in Linux kernels 2.5+ that provides a tree of system devices. This package provides the program ‘systool’ to query it, which can be used to list devices by bus, class, and topology.
In addition this package ships a configuration file /etc/sysfs.conf which allows one to conveniently set sysfs attributes at system bootup (via an init script).
There are three methods to install sysfsutils on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sysfsutils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sysfsutils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sysfsutils
Install sysfsutils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sysfsutils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sysfsutils
Install sysfsutils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sysfsutils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sysfsutils
How To Uninstall sysfsutils on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the sysfsutils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sysfsutils
Uninstall sysfsutils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sysfsutils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sysfsutils
Remove sysfsutils Configurations and Data
To remove sysfsutils configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sysfsutils
Remove sysfsutils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sysfsutils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sysfsutils
