In this tutorial we learn how to install sxiv on Ubuntu.
What is sxiv
sxiv is:
sxiv is an alternative to feh and qiv. Its only dependency besides xlib is imlib2. The primary goal for writing sxiv is to create an image viewer, which only has the most basic features required for fast image viewing. It works nicely with tiling window managers and its code base should be kept small and clean to make it easy for you to dig into it and customize it for your needs.
There are three methods to install sxiv on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sxiv Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sxiv using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sxiv
Install sxiv Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sxiv using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sxiv
Install sxiv Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sxiv using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sxiv
How To Uninstall sxiv on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the sxiv package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sxiv
Uninstall sxiv And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sxiv and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sxiv
Remove sxiv Configurations and Data
To remove sxiv configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sxiv
