In this tutorial we learn how to install svn-buildpackage on Ubuntu.

What is svn-buildpackage

svn-buildpackage is:

svn-buildpackage (formerly svn-devscripts) contains tools that help to automate the task of maintaining Debian packages inside of a Subversion repository. They are intended to be used by Debian maintainers to simplify the error-prone actions with the svn, devscripts, and dpkg-dev utilities.

The package also includes a detailed HOWTO document.

There are three methods to install svn-buildpackage on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install svn-buildpackage Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install svn-buildpackage using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install svn-buildpackage

Install svn-buildpackage Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install svn-buildpackage using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install svn-buildpackage

Install svn-buildpackage Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install svn-buildpackage using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install svn-buildpackage

How To Uninstall svn-buildpackage on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the svn-buildpackage package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove svn-buildpackage

To uninstall svn-buildpackage and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove svn-buildpackage

Remove svn-buildpackage Configurations and Data

To remove svn-buildpackage configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge svn-buildpackage

We can use the following command to remove svn-buildpackage configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
