Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install stun-server on Ubuntu.

What is stun-server

stun-server is:

The STUN protocol (Simple Traversal of UDP through NATs) is described in the IETF RFC 3489, available at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3489.txt. It’s used to help clients behind NAT to tunnel incoming calls through. This server is the counterpart to help the client identify the NAT and have it open the proper ports for it.

This package installs only the server part

There are three methods to install stun-server on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install stun-server Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install stun-server using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install stun-server

Install stun-server Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install stun-server using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install stun-server

Install stun-server Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install stun-server using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install stun-server

How To Uninstall stun-server on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the stun-server package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove stun-server

Uninstall stun-server And Its Dependencies

To uninstall stun-server and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove stun-server

Remove stun-server Configurations and Data

To remove stun-server configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge stun-server

Remove stun-server configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove stun-server configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stun-server
