Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install stoken on Ubuntu.
What is stoken
stoken is:
stoken is a software token which generates one-time passwords compatible with RSA SecurID 128-bit (AES) tokens. SecurID tokens are commonly used to authenticate end users to protected network resources and VPNs, as OTPs provide greater resistance to many attacks associated with static passwords.
stoken aims to provide a Linux-friendly, free software alternative to the proprietary RSA SecurID Software Authenticators.
This package contains standalone command-line and GTK+ GUI programs that allow for importing token seeds, generating tokencodes, and various utility/testing functions.
There are three methods to install stoken on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install stoken Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install stoken using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install stoken
Install stoken Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install stoken using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install stoken
Install stoken Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install stoken using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install stoken
How To Uninstall stoken on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the stoken package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove stoken
Uninstall stoken And Its Dependencies
To uninstall stoken and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove stoken
Remove stoken Configurations and Data
To remove stoken configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge stoken
Remove stoken configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove stoken configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stoken
