Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ssmping on Ubuntu.
What is ssmping
ssmping is:
Tools to check whether you can receive Source Specific Multicast (SSM) or Any Source Multicast (ASM) via either IPv4 or IPv6
If a host runs ssmpingd, users on other hosts can use the ssmping client to test whether they can receive SSM from the host. Another program called asmping is also provided to check whether can receive ASM.
There are three methods to install ssmping on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ssmping Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ssmping using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ssmping
Install ssmping Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ssmping using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ssmping
Install ssmping Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ssmping using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ssmping
How To Uninstall ssmping on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ssmping package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ssmping
Uninstall ssmping And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ssmping and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ssmping
Remove ssmping Configurations and Data
To remove ssmping configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ssmping
Remove ssmping configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ssmping configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ssmping
