In this tutorial we learn how to install ssh-contact on Ubuntu.
What is ssh-contact
ssh-contact is:
SSH-Contact is a client/service tool that makes easy to connect your telepathy IM contacts via SSH. No need to care about dynamic IP, NAT, port forwarding or firewalls anymore; if you can chat with a friend, you can also SSH him.
This package is a metapackage that depends on both ssh-contact-client and ssh-contact-service.
There are three methods to install ssh-contact on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ssh-contact Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ssh-contact using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ssh-contact
Install ssh-contact Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ssh-contact using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ssh-contact
Install ssh-contact Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ssh-contact using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ssh-contact
How To Uninstall ssh-contact on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ssh-contact package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ssh-contact
Uninstall ssh-contact And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ssh-contact and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ssh-contact
Remove ssh-contact Configurations and Data
To remove ssh-contact configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ssh-contact
Remove ssh-contact configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
