Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ssed on Ubuntu.
What is ssed
ssed is:
Super sed reads the specified files or the standard input if no files are specified, makes editing changes according to a list of commands, and writes the results to the standard output.
Super sed is an enhanced version of GNU sed 3.02. Relative to 3.02, there are several new features (including in-place editing of files, extended regular expression syntax and a few new commands) and some bug fixes.
There are three methods to install ssed on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ssed Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ssed using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ssed
Install ssed Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ssed using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ssed
Install ssed Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ssed using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ssed
How To Uninstall ssed on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ssed package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ssed

To uninstall ssed and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ssed
Remove ssed Configurations and Data
To remove ssed configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ssed
