Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install sqlline on Ubuntu.

What is sqlline

sqlline is:

SQLLine is a pure-Java console based utility for connecting to relational databases and executing SQL commands.

It is similar to other command-line database access utilities like sqlplus for Oracle, mysql for MySQL, and isql for Sybase/SQL Server.

Since it is pure-Java, it is platform independent, and will run on any platform that can run Java 1.3 or higher.

There are three methods to install sqlline on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install sqlline Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install sqlline using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install sqlline

Install sqlline Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install sqlline using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install sqlline

Install sqlline Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install sqlline using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install sqlline

How To Uninstall sqlline on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the sqlline package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove sqlline

Uninstall sqlline And Its Dependencies

To uninstall sqlline and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove sqlline

Remove sqlline Configurations and Data

To remove sqlline configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge sqlline

Remove sqlline configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove sqlline configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sqlline
